Job Safety Observations (JSO) Module Overview
Understanding the purpose and structure of the Job Safety Observations (JSO) module.
What are Job Safety Observations?
Job Safety Observations (JSOs) help you record observations of employees performing work activities. The goal is to reinforce safe work practices by understanding why tasks are done in a certain way, and to identify and correct any unsafe acts or conditions.
Key Structure
The JSO module involves two main parts:
- Main JSO Record: This captures overall details like who observed, what tasks were observed, and the date/time. It also holds general comments and can link to overall corrective actions.
- Individual Observation Entries: Linked to the main JSO record, each entry details a specific observation. This is where you'll classify the observation (e.g., "Manual Handling" as a category, "Unsafe Act" as a class), describe it, rate it (Good/Poor), and link any actions specific to that particular observation.
This two-part structure allows for a broad overview of the observation session while also capturing detailed, actionable insights for specific items.
Workflow and Notifications
JSO records typically follow a simple Draft -> Complete workflow. By default, the JSO module does not generate notifications, though administrators can configure them. For more details on how notifications work generally, see 'Understanding Notifications'.
