New Viking 2.0 Platform
The myosh HSEQ management system is built on top of our very own software foundation called the Viking Platform. Viking 2.0 is now available in beta.
What is Viking 2.0?
Viking 2.0 is the latest interface and front end for the myosh flagship Viking platform.
The Viking platform is a cloud-based, configurable HSEQ management engine and interface created for myosh from the ground up. It has been in deployment for over 9 years.
Now, welcome to Viking 2.0! The same powerful and familiar engine, but with a new front end to interact with. Looks better, does more, works faster.
New Features
Performance stability
Performance stability should be improved since Viking 2.0 has moved away from web servers, to using automatic server scaling with AWS ('serverless computing'). The API is stateless in 2.0, which means it doesn't rely on the server remembering the state of the session, making it more robust and resulting in fewer glitches and sync errors.
Fewer steps and clicks
Reduced steps/clicks for performing form-based functions in many places. Try out the Select function, for example when select existing document records to link to a contractor record.
Better form display layouts
Fixed many previous limitations in form display. For example, 2.0 now supports word wrapping for the tables of linked records wherever a field's content is too long to fit in the column width.
Home page layout
The Home Page is being reworked. Configurable quick links are now directly accessible as buttons rather than being hidden behind a dropdown menu.
Quicker quick links
Related to the above, quick link urls can specify to directly start a new record. You may also bookmark such links if you don't want to configure a button for the home page. This is especially good for users that have limited responsibilities: for example, users that only ever use the system to log an incident or hazard. A 'new record' quick link immediately opens the desired record type in draft mode.
Minimise open records in nav panel
In the record navigator panel on the right, where your open records are shown, you can now click on the record icon in the navigator to minimise or restore the record view without affecting its save state.
Better full screen
Full screen form view no longer forces you to a new tab, you can switch between full screen and paned view at will.
Better adaption to screen size
Viking 2.0 has much better reactivity to screen size. In fact, it is directly usable on a mobile interface. The myosh mobile app offers enhanced offline capabilities, though.
Records list filtering options
For the record list you will find that filtering options are more consistent with toggling between archived/non-archived values and searching is available (where applicable) for all fields. There are fields which were previously unsupported in Viking 1.0’s record list which are now able to be used for filtering and displaying data. This mainly relates to fields from within linked records i.e. linked action fields.
Missing Features
Features that are currently under construction in Viking 2.0, which you may be used to having in Viking:
Record Links
- 'In-line Record Creation' and editing is not currently supported.
Multiselect Checkbox
- The Multiselect Checkbox Field, if configured to show as buttons, will ignore the chosen colour.
System Administration
The administration section still routes back to the Viking 1.0 interface while the functionality of the v 2.0 Administration is being completed.
Module icons not editable
Related to the above, it is not possible to modify the module icons until the Administration tools for v 2.0 is available.
Dashboard 2.0 widgets
Note that Dashboard 2.0 must be added as a separate module - your existing Dashboard module will not convert to Dashboard 2.0 when you log in to Viking 2.0. In fact, you may already have it added as a module even in Viking 1.0, potentially named 'Dashboard (beta)'.
